"IF you do not ask, the answer is always NO," FORBES, April 21, 1997
"New Solutions Arise Out Of New Thinking"
Entrepreneur, small business or established business, before I start . . .
Ask yourself the following questions. If you have the answers,
you don't need us, but if you don’t have the answers, contact the Forbes Business Group and we will help.
If you have a new business
or want to start one, ask yourself these questions:
· Should I incorporate?
· Should I buy a franchise?
· What kind of low cost advertising can I do?
· Where do I locate? Should I buy new or used equipment, or should I lease or buy?
· Should I advertise? If so, where?
· How do I get people to contact me first?
· Should I join an association?
· Should I participate in a trade show? If yes, where,
when and what will I need?
· How do I set up in-house cash flow management?
I need
to consider so much before bringing a new business to the marketplace.
If you have a new product or service to bring to the marketplace,
ask yourself these questions:
· What kind of need is there for my product/service?
· What is the public looking for in my product/service?
· Will it be eye-catching? How should I package it?
· Should I set up dealers or sell
it directly? How do I do this?
· How does my product or service compare to other like
product /services?
· What kind of low cost advertising can I do?
· Where should market it? Locally, nationally, globally?
· Where and how can I get the
product /services evaluated?
· How should I package my product or service so it will
be selected first?
If you have a small business but not enough work, ask yourself these questions:
· Should I advertise more or should I add a sales person?
· How do I know if my advertising
is really working?
· How can I get my business to stand out from others?
· Why aren’t I getting referrals or callbacks from customers?
· What does the public
think of my place of business? What do people think of the food or service I offer?
· If I recruit a sales person, what do I say in my ad?
· What do I do when we meet in
person? What should I pay a sales person?
· I have a lot of work but have problems
getting paid. What should I do?
· Should I join an association?
· What kind of low cost advertising can I do?
· Should I get in a trade show? And if
yes, where, when and what will I need?
This could go on and on - you have business questions and you need answers.
If you have a new or growing medical, chiropractor, or dental office with great doctors, you might have these questions:
· When do I know if my staff is doing the job I need?
· How do I get medical insurance
payments in faster?
· How do I put a booklet together for my office staff so that
they know and understand how I want things done?
· My staff does not like or have
time to collect outstanding accounts (collections). How can I change this?
· Should
I join an association?
· What kind of low cost advertising can I do?
· Should I get in a trade show? And if yes, where, when and what will I need?
· How
can I get more business?
· Should I open another location? If yes, where?
· How can I get my practice to stand out from others?
If you’re running a larger business, you might have these questions about
your departments:
· Does my HR department recruit a sales person or bad debt collector
the same way they recruit a machine operator or truck driver? Then that's what I’ll get!
· Does my HR department have a questionnaire to hire a sales person who different from a forklift driver?
· Do I have a good commission plan in place or could it be better?
· How good is my
sales training?
· I should know trade show selling is not the same as phone selling.
If I chose a trade show, do I have a sales plan?
· Does my marketing department produce
advertisements that work?
· What kind of low cost advertising can I do?
· How do I get feedback from the public on my marketing, my food, or my service?
· Should
I join an association?
· Should I get in a trade show? And if yes, where, when and
what will I need?
· Accounting Dept: How do I get my customers to have a better understanding
of my charges? Can my accounting department explain the fees?
· I do the work but have
trouble getting paid. How can I change this?
· What can I change to stop paying 30
to 50% for collections?
Each department has questions and problems, but where do I get answers?
